Waiver Wire: Devaughn Vele and the New Orleans Ceiling Play

The most-added list is a mess of names attached to unsettled situations, which is exactly what August waivers should be. The players worth real FAAB are the ones sitting in offenses that have to feed them, not the ones whose add count is chasing a single headline. New Orleans owns three of the fifteen most-added players this week, and that clustering is the story nobody is centering.

The Saints Room Is the Real Target

Barion Brown, Devaughn Vele, and Jordyn Tyson are all being added off the same New Orleans depth chart, which tells you the market knows targets are up for grabs there. Vele is the one to prioritize. He carries an ADP outside the top 140 while Brown has no draft data at all, meaning Vele is the closer thing to a known quantity with a defined role.

Tank Dell resurfacing at 96,144 adds only muddies it further, so the play here is Hutchinson or nothing until the target share settles.

Add count measures panic; ADP measures conviction, and the gap between them is where waiver value lives.

The Traps

Najee Harris at 236,060 adds is a free agent with no team and no ADP, which is not a running back you claim, it is a name you recognize. Darren Waller coming back into fantasy relevance in Carolina at 198,360 adds is a bet on health and volume that has burned rosters before. Keenan Allen, drafted at 11.11 in Indianapolis, is a better bet than either but is not the ceiling play his add count implies.

Neither should cost more than a minimal bid. These are the claims you make when your bench has room and you are playing for upside rather than Week 1 points.

Who to Cut

Your drop list should mirror the market's. Emanuel Wilson, Khalil Herbert, and Devin Singletary are all buried backs bleeding roster spots for a reason. Tyreek Hill and Zach Ertz showing up on the drop list as free agents means the room has moved on, and so should you.
