Waiver Wire Week: Isaiah Davis Is the Only Must-Add

It's late July, which means this waiver report is really a draft-prep report. Nobody is winning a season in Week Zero, but you can lose one by burning FAAB on a name that spikes in adds every August and disappears by September. Most of this list is exactly that. One name isn't.

The One Real Claim

Isaiah Davis at 71,172 adds isn't a fluke, and he's the only player here I'd spend real capital on. He goes undrafted in your top 140, which tells you the field hasn't caught up to whatever is happening in that Jets backfield. Breece Hall sits at 3.04 ADP, so this is a handcuff-plus play with standalone upside. Claim him and stash him.

Everyone else near the top of the add list is a dart throw dressed up as a discovery. Malik Benson (53,592) and Treylon Burks (43,533) are the kind of camp-buzz receivers who evaporate once pads come on.

The Traps

Zavion Thomas, Caleb Douglas, Cyrus Allen — none of these guys crack the top 140, and there's a reason. Rookie and depth-chart-adrift receivers get added on a highlight and a headline, not a role. If you can't tell me their target path today, they're not worth a claim in July.

Backfield Fliers Worth a Bench Spot

If you want a second speculative add behind Davis, look at the running backs. Seth McGowan (23,280), J'Mari Taylor (20,358), and MarShawn Lloyd (17,640) all offer the one thing waiver receivers don't: a clear path to touches if the guy ahead goes down. Lloyd even shows up at 11.03 ADP, so the market already sees the outline of a role in Green Bay.

Who to Cut for Room

The drop list is doing you a favor. Aging tight ends and free-agent running backs are clogging rosters for no reason this time of year. If you're holding any of these, they're your cut to make the Davis claim.

Trey Benson (18,012 drops) is the one name here I'd pump the brakes on. He's still drafted at 2.10 ADP as Jeremiyah Love's backfield mate in Arizona — dropping a top-25 RB in July is how you hand a leaguemate a season.

In July, the right waiver move is usually the one you don't make.

Bottom line: claim Isaiah Davis, consider a late-round RB flier, and ignore the receiver churn entirely. The August version of this list will have five new names on it, and the discipline you show now is the roster spot you'll have open when the ones that matter emerge.
